Audio is clearly closely linked to Acoustics with one nearly always heavily dependant on the other. ADC's expertise in sound systems ranges from industrial and commercial piped music systems to sound systems for all types of entertainment. We also offer digital recording facilities, digital processing, mastering, and forensic audio services.

Sound System Design         

The link between acoustics and noise control and sound system design is clear.There is, however, an essential interface between pure acoustic work and pure sound system design and both can be extremely specialised. ADC works closely with specialist sound system designers to specify the optimum system for a given purpose, be it background music for shops or factories, public address systems in public places, or top of the range sound systems in concert halls and night-clubs.

ADC's services in this area are quite diverse, but include the following:
• Site surveys, from low level ambient noise situations to noisy factories where there is a risk that additional music might result in unacceptable occupational noise exposure, and from external locations to difficult acoustic environments such as concert halls, leisure centres and railway stations.
• Sound system specification in relation to the acoustic environment and the requirements of the customer, emergency alarm systems, and environmental and occupational noise exposure issues.
• Liaison with contractors.
• Project management.

Recording              

ADC offers a digital audio recording service,including multi-tracking, and the production of recorded material in most formats, including mass duplication of CDs, inserts and boxes.

Services are wide ranging and include the following:
• On site recording of music,speech,and forensic evidence.
• Digital processing and enhancement.
• Mastering.
• Tape, mini-disc,MP3,and CD production - one-offs and mass duplication.
• CD label and cover printing.

Digital Processing and Enhancement       

ADC can take recordings in most types of medium (eg tape, vinyl, MP3, CD, etc) and enhance with an almost endless range of features. See also our forensic service.  Some of the enhancement services we can offer are as follows:
• Removal of tape hiss, mains hum, rumble, scratches, glitches etc. 
• Enhancement of speech.
• EQ, ie. enhancement of base, treble or other parts of the frequency spectrum.
• A wide range of effects such as echo, reverberation, phasing, chorus, etc.
• Dynamic processing such as compression, expansion, limiting, gating, fading in and out etc.
• Mastering, ie. dc offset, dynamic processing, spectral shaping, cloning, topping and tailing, normalizing and much more.

Forensic

ADC's audio analysis expertise extends to forensic audio for both civil and criminal cases and problem solving.

Most problems are based upon the allegation and denial that something was said. Often the acoustic environment, or the distances over which it was witnessed can confirm or reject the allegation as realistic or feasible. Recordings of speech can be enhanced for extra clarity and in specialist circumstances "finger printed" to the speaker. Also, equipment and machinery, etc can be identified through audio recordings and processing. ADC's forensic audio services cover many aspects such as the following:
• Surveys of acoustic and ambient noise environments.
• Survey and recordings of speech, equipment, etc.  Please note that we do not offer a covert audio recording service.
• Digital processing and analysis of audio recordings such as removal of background noise, removal of tape hiss, removal of mains hum, mechanical services noise, etc., speech enhancement etc.  Please note that we do not offer voice finger-printing directly.

Project Management                    

ADC offers a full project management service in all aspects of our work which is intended to take clients from the initial identification and assessment of a noise, acoustic or audio problem through to the implementation of the solutions and retesting to confirm that the problem has been resolved.  Our services include the following:
• Noise and acoustic surveys and assessments in accordance with appropriate standards and client needs.
• Identification and ranking of problems.
• Finding, briefing, and assessing prospective contractors.
• Project control, including inspections during manufacture and installation, and dispute resolution.
